This is my new song and single: "I Used to Have It All" which is the A track and original, the B side (as in the olden cassette tape days) is a remix and interpretation of my original song by Siege/Clinton John Leon.
-Tory Roucaud
One of the great social achievements of a musical artist is to change sorrow into beauty, sadness into song. Tory Roucaud's song: “I Used to Have It All” exemplifies this artistic transformation. Released here in it's original form as a pop folk arrangement, and as an art-pop remix of that arrangement (Siege Mix)- the song is an experience of catharsis induced by inspired melody. We hope you feel that.
Rather than force a rigid structure on my art-pop remix of her song, most of the decisions I made were attempts to emphasize moments of deep musical sensitivity to timing and melody in Tory's performance. I did so by using her guitar and voice to create echoes that live in place of her strummed guitar in the chorus sections. I also added windy noises, because I thought the sound of 'just missed' or 'lost in the woods' was fitting to the mood of the piece. The contrast between sections is dramatized still more by the breakdown of the beat, causing the listener to hold to Tory's voice like a light in the shadows. -Clinton John Leon/Siege
lyrics
I Used to Have It All - Tory Roucaud
I used to have it all figured out,
I used to have my route all planned out.
I used to have it all figured out,
I used to have my map all penned out.
And now I'm lo-lo-lo lost
lo-lo-lo lost
lo-lo-lo lost
lo-lo-lo lost...
I'm lost.
I don't know where to start,
all I know is that you stopped my heart
from pump-pump-pumping
pump-pump-pumping
pump-pump-pumping
pump-pump-pumping...
my heart.
I used to think we were soul mates,
but now I'm left face to face with fate.
All the others, they leave me cold.
I thought we were to grow old
to-ge-ge-gether
ge-ge-gether
ge-ge-gether
ge-ge-gether,
my love.
All these memories swimming in my brain-
sometimes I think we could relight that flame,
but no, it's too too too late,
too too too late,
too too too late,
too too too late
for us.
All I can do is hold me head up high,
grab Fate and stare her in the eyes and say
Hey hey hey hey
what's in store today?
I'm taking it day by day,
taking (it) day by day.
I used to have it all figured out,
I used to have my route all planned out.
I used to have it all figured out,
I used to have my map all penned out.
And now I'm lo-lo-lo lost
lo-lo-lo lost
lo-lo-lo lost
lo-lo-lo lost.
I used to have it all...
I used to have it all...
I used to have it all....
